3 Tips To Help You Get Ready For A Halloween Party

Getting ready for your Halloween party can be tricky, but with these three tips you can turn the trick into a treat!

1. Choose A Party Theme
There are lots of wonderful party themes that you can choose to bring an extra level of spookiness to your Halloween party. Two fantastic themes are vampires and witches. What makes these both great choices is because they have a diverse range of different types of fiction each at their own level of scariness appropriate for different age groups. For example with regards to child friendly interpretations of witches, you could look to the Harry Potter universe in J K Rowling’s books, or children’s television shows such as Sabrina the Teenage Witch. With regards to vampires, young children could enjoy a party inspired by stories including characters such as Mona the Vampire or The Little Vampire, whereas older children, such as teenagers could enjoy parties inspired by television series such as The Vampire Diaries or Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

However, if you’re not so fond of using popular fiction for party inspiration, you could instead look to other cultures and how they celebrate Halloween. After all, this could be a fantastic opportunity to education the children at the party about difficult cultures. For example, you could organise a party inspired by Día De Los Muertos, a festival celebrated on the 1st and 2nd of November in countries such as Mexico and the United States of America. One of the prominent themes and characters associated with this Mesoamerican celebration is the skeleton. However, unlike European and Asian interpretations of skeletons, the Mesoamerican interpretation isn’t a scary monster; instead the skeleton is a cheerful character. Opting for a colourful skeleton themed party could be a fantastic opportunity to teach your children and their friends about a different culture, whilst having a fun party at the same time.

2. Plan Some Awesome Games
There are lots of fun games that are great choices for Halloween. One example is the Halloween party classic, Apple Bobbing. If you’re unfamiliar with the game, you fill a bucket or a tub with water and place apples inside. Then people take it in turns to place their hands behind their back and try to grab an apple using their teeth. However, as water can be dangerous, make sure that the game is supervised by a responsible adult.

However, if you’re looking for a game to promote teamwork amongst the children, we suggest a game of “wrap up the mummy” In this simple game, the children split into two teams with one team member volunteering to become the mummy. Then use kitchen roll or crepe paper to cover a volunteer in paper, wrapping them up like a mummy. The first team to transform their volunteer into a mummy are the winners. You can also read lots of different variations of this game by visiting Activity Village .

Another great choice for Halloween party games is homemade indoor bowling. This game is a fantastic opportunity for you to get your little ones involved in the party preparations. Using some cans or kitchen rolls to make bowling pins and a small ball to use as the ‘bowling ball’ and you could make a fun game of indoor bowling. You could also decorate these ‘bowling pins’ with craft card to turn them into monsters.

However, if you’re looking for party games and you’re short on time, you could always play a few games of pass the parcel. If you’re really short on time and don’t think you’ll be able to make your own parcels in time for the party, we have a fantastic selection of readymade pass the parcels to choose form, including a Halloween Pass the Parcel which has lots of fun Halloween themed treats inside.
